A warm August weekend brought out a host of athletes for two different races in Bend. And Pierce Footwear was there both days to help keep their feet comfortable on the course, and moving swiftly in the transitions.
On Saturday, August 26, the Central Oregon Symphony conducted the 3rd Annual Beat Beethoven’s 5K Fun Run/Walk at Central Oregon Community College. The most competitive part of this family-friendly event is that participants try to complete the 5K course before a 33-minute recording of Beethoven’s ever-popular 5th Symphony ends. Pierce Footwear gave away several pairs of shoes to competitors and sold quite a few as well.
On Sunday, the Pierce team was back for more at Juniper Park, where the Kids Triathlon took place. Kids ranging from 4 to 15 years old competed in four different age group categories. They swam in the pool, biked as much as two miles, and ran up to 1.5 miles on trails around the park.
Eleven-year-old Daniella Dispenza of Bend calmly won the category for 10-12-year-olds. She conquered a 100-yard swim, a 1.5 mile bike ride and 1-mile run in a handsome pair of Pierce T2s. Of course, the shoes probably can’t take all of the credit for Daniella’s outstanding result. It just so happens that her father is USA Triathlon and Cycling Coach Jaime Dispenza. Needless to say, he knows a good pair of high-performance shoes when he sees them.
Daniella wasn’t the only person with a huge smile at the end of the race. Pierce Footwear gave away three more pairs of shoes to some lucky competitors and several people came to the booth and bought a pair.
Watch out Daniella! Looks like the competition is going to be a bit tougher next time.
